Back to the room
Getting your screen on air
A phone browser cannot capture the screen, so the picture comes from somewhere else: from this phone through a broadcast app, or from a computer through an invite link. Either way it lands in your own room, and you keep directing the broadcast from your phone.
Way one — this phone's screen, through a broadcast app
- From your phone's app store, install any live-broadcast app that supports the RTMP protocol and screen capture. Pick whichever you like — no particular app is required.
- In your room, press “Screen”, then “This phone's screen, via an app”. A broadcast link belonging to your room alone appears.
- Press “Copy”, open the app, and paste the link into its server address box — usually called Server, URL or RTMP URL.
- If the app asks for a stream key, leave it empty; the key is already inside the link.
- Switch the app to screen-capture mode and press its own start button.
- Come back to your room in the browser — your screen is in the preview, where you set its size and place before pressing “Go live”.
Way two — a computer's screen, through a link
- In your room, press “Screen”, then “A computer's screen, via a link”.
- Copy the link that appears and open it on the computer whose screen you want on air — send it in a message, mail it to yourself, or paste it into a browser already open on that desk. It opens your room's screen-sharing page.
- On that computer, allow screen sharing when the browser asks. Nothing has to be installed.
- The computer's screen arrives in your room's preview, and the broadcast — its sound and its alerts — stays under your control on the phone.
Worth knowing
- Each link is good for one use and a short while — the app's broadcast link for two minutes, the computer-screen link for ten. If the time runs out before you start, make a fresh one from the room — the old one stops working immediately.
- Never share the broadcast link: anyone holding it can broadcast into your room.
- Sound coming from a computer's screen stays muted until you turn it on yourself, with the room's “Computer sound” button.
- Screen broadcasting is heavy on the network. A steady Wi-Fi connection gives a clearer picture than mobile data.
